Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday…wait, what? It’s not often that you get to see a race weekend happen in the middle of the week. But for the Red Bull Global Rallycross finale in Las Vegas, mid week makes total sense. It coincides with SEMA, the giant trade show for the automotive aftermarket held in Las Vegas each year. A considerable portion of the race loving community is already here, so why not.
I got a call late Friday that I was scheduled to have a ride along with Rhys Millen on Monday afternoon, which was great…except for the fact that I was still in Austin Texas covering my first Formula 1 Grand Prix. As soon as the Race in Austin was over, late Sunday evening, I would have to drive straight through, eighteen hours to Las Vegas, if I was going to have a chance at hitching a ride in Rhys Millen’s most awesome Hyundai Veloster GRC Supercar on Monday afternoon. Luckily, I had a passenger for this leg of the trip. A young aspiring professional drift driver, Fielding Shredder, would be making the trip to SEMA with me and would be able to help with the driving duties. I’m not a good passenger, and I’ve never been really good at sleeping in a car, so even with the help, I still ended up pulling what amounted to a 36 hour long Sunday. I made it to my ride-along, but man, oh man, I was well beyond done.
I took some on board footage of my ride along, and in one segment, you can actually see me falling asleep in the seat. It’s funny unless you’re me. You may never get to see this embarrassing tidbit…I’m still thinking about the “to post or not to post” question.
Anyway, the action at the final round of the Red Bull Global Rallycross was exciting, as it always is and already has me wanting the 2015 season to begin. Here are my favorite photos from GRC Las Vegas.
