Popular for their motorcycles and boat engines, Suzuki isn't the typical company you'd think of to build a Pike's Peak record car, but in 1996, that's exactly what they did with the ESCUDO. Powered by a twin-turbocharged DOHC 2,5l V6 producing 981 hp and 930 nm of torque, the ESCUDO proved to be a step-up from Suzuki's intensely complex twin-engined monstrosities from previous years, both in performance and simplicity. With a weight of just over 800 kg, the car's power and agility were accentuated, making it the perfect contender for the notoriously dangerous Hillclimb. The ESCUDO also left a strong impression on every unsuspecting boy who had 1,000,000 credits to spend on Gran Turismo. Indeed, Suzuki's efforts towards success at Pike's Peak cemented the company as a true Motorsport legend, and paved the way for it to become one of the most respected manufacturers to date.
