The weather was certainly a factor in the Pacific Northwest, as it often is, but in this instance it was actually a break from this summers normal. The rain that affected round 5 of the 2015 Formula Drift Championship in Monroe Washington was the first measurable rain, and the first time temps had dipped below the upper 80’s and low 90’s, in more than a month. A fact that kept the entire field on their toes, and caught more than a couple on the wrong side of happiness as the skies opened up. The competition on Saturday actually managed to miss the worst of what Mother Nature had to offer right up until the final four got underway. From then on through the finish, the conditions were slick at best and nearly impossible as we moved through the final. Not many would say it out loud, but you could tell the crowd was a bit disappointed when the final was reduced to a zero smoke, slow motion affair. The one saving grace being that crowd favorite Fredric Aasbo had taken the win against first time podium finisher Alec Hohnadell. Justin Pawlak would finish third after a controversial and much publicized smash up derby style round win over Tyler McQuarrie.
Here are my favorite photos from Saturdays action in Monroe.
