The countdown is on to the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with both of the Mitsubishi Motors MiEV Evolution II race cars have qualified in first and second place.  After some issues arose during testing, the team is in a most advantageous position.  Our Greg Tracy captured the top spot, while Team Captain, Hiroshi Masuoka was close behind him.  It’s an incredible show of prowess from the Japanese manufacturer and the drivers!

In “conventional” racing, the qualifying runs are used to establish the starting grid and a car with the fastest time will occupy the pole (first) position aka P1.  In hill climbing it’s different because the race is based on a time where one driver will take the course.  It’s literally about beating the mountain.

“I am extremely excited about being the quickest in the EV Division. By being the quickest in the class, I will be able to choose the run order during the race day within our division, which may be advantageous – especially if there are any issues with weather or changing road conditions. The car today has improved much more in comparison to the practice day on Tuesday and is very stable and easy to drive. I look forward to keeping this momentum for tomorrow’s practice.” – Greg Tracy
