Remembering Steve Byrnes

On April 2015, the NASCAR community lost one of its favourite people to cancer. Steve Byrnes was a commentator and pit road reporter with SPEED Channel before it became Fox Sports 1.  He was well known for his warm demeanour, professionalism, humour and humility.  Not only was Byrnes beloved by fans but respected by drivers.  I used to search Pit Road at NASCAR races, hoping for a glimpse of him and maybe even a chance to say hello.

Brynes was one of those guys who asked the tough questions but never came across as invasive or confrontational.  From future Hall of Famers like Jimmie Johnson to a nervous youngster experiencing their first TV interview on NASCAR Racehub, he knew how to make them all feel comfortable.  He was always respectful but also commanded respect without demanding it.  Steve Byrnes, you were a true class act and will be missed.
