I am excited to announce that we will have Paul Dallenbach contributing to My Life at Speed. Paul is the son of race car driver, Wally Dallenbach Sr, who won the inaugural Ontario Motor Speedway race and brother of Wally Jr, NASCAR driver, announcer and now working with IndyCar. Paul is one of the top stuntmen in Hollywood and a really good friend of mine. Paul was recently asked to join the Millen family in New Zealand to celebrate Rod Millen’s 60th birthday. In order to properly celebrate, race cars were in order and Rod decided to turn his New Zealand ranch into a “mini” Goodwood. The Festival of Speed, held at Goodwood, is the largest motoring garden party in the world – a unique summer weekend that brings together an impossibly heady mix of cars, stars and motor sport ‘royalty’ to create the largest car culture event in the world.
The new event was quickly named – The Leadfoot Festival
Here is Paul’s quick synopsis of the event.
The Leadfoot Festival was an event put on by racing great Rod Millen, celebrating his 60th Birthday. I was honored to be invited to run my back up hill climb open wheeler, the one Wally Jr won in back in 2006. I won the Goodwood Festival in class and 3rd overall back in 2007. The Road was built on Millen’s property in New Zealand. Rod raced his Pikes Peak Celica and set the fastest time, with me and 3 other cars 1.5 seconds back, all covered by .3 seconds. Rhys Millen, Andrew Hawkeswood and myself had a great dual but it was all for fun and laughed about it over beer after. I can’t wait to get testing for Pikes Peak in a few weeks! Paul Dallenbach
Stay tuned to My Life at Speed as we promise even more contributors by the end of the month – just in time for Pikes Peak.
