If it wasn’t exciting enough that the Ford GT is returning to the roads in 2016, we can also look forward to its return to prestigious endurance racing series.  Here’s the official word from Ford:

“The Ford GT race car will compete in the LM GTE Pro class of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in 2016, and will run the full 2016 schedules of the FIA World Endurance Championship and TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

The two Ford teams will be operated by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. Also joining Ford in this project are Multimatic Motorsports, Roush Yates Engines, Castrol, Michelin, Forza Motorsport, Sparco, and Brembo.”

The new car is beautiful but also carries the spirit of the Ford’s storied racing legacy. Although next summer the battle among Audi, Toyota and Porsche for victory at Le Mans will be more vigorous than before, many eyes (and hearts) will be on the Ford GT.
