“This park would be unique in the world.” – Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari Chairman

Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari World has been amazing crowds of locals and tourists since it opened in 2010.  This massive facility on Yas Island is the world’s largest indoor theme park spanning over 2.15 million square feet and strictly dedicated to all things Ferrari.  There is an interactive exhibit that recreates a Grand Prix paddock, motor home and garage complete with actual F1 cars.  In addition to a 360° ride that tells the story of the Scuderia team from the 1950’s to present day.  You can walk or ‘drive’ through miniature Italy in a small-scale 1958 Ferrari 250 California.  There’s also a display of vintage Ferrari models going back as far as 1947; and a specially made film on Enzo Ferrari’s start in racing that plays in its own theatre.  In addition to a live show with dancers and acrobats, restaurants and shops; it looks like Ferrari World has got it all for the family, but the thrill rides are where this place truly shines.

Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso give Formula Rossa their stamp of approval

Formula Rossa is the world’s fastest roller coaster with acceleration up to about 149 miles per hour and 4.8 Gs.  They strove to replicate the experience of driving a Formula One car including chicanes and turns reminiscent of actual racing circuits.  Another ride pits two rollercoasters against each other in a GT race with no predictable winner.  Riders speed along in replica F430 Spiders that weave above and below the other.  You can get launched 200 feet into the air in order to experience 3.8Gs before plummeting back to earth; all the while nestled in custom Ferrari-styled seats.  Gamers can try their luck in a simulator that tests your skill on a virtual Yas Marina Circuit.  Unless you really can’t stand Ferrari, race fans in general should consider a visit to this park…now that we know it exists.  Okay, okay, now that I know that it exists.  Come on NASCAR.  Time to get cracking!  General admission tickets are about USD $61 (AED 225) for adults and USD $50 (AED 185) for children.
