Race to the Sky Hill Climb – Queenstown, New Zealand 2007
It has been recently announced that the Race to the Sky Hill Climb is coming back after an eight year hiatus. The Race to the Sky course spans 14.5km, with 135 turns as it climbs from 450 metres to 1500 metres above sea level. Now that Pike Peak is fully paved, The Race to the Sky is the longest all gravel hill climb.
The race will be held in the Cardrona Valley near Wanaka, the high-profile event known as the Highlands Race to the Sky, will be held April 17 – 19, 2015.
Here are a couple of videos from the 2007 event to get your heart pumping! The first features: Mike Ryan, Rod Millen, David Donner, Nobuhiro Monster Tajima and many more on this fantastic road!!
The second is an early onboard from racer Tony Dixon in a Starlet SR20 Turbo. Dixon would place in second place, in the 2wd division.
Stay tuned! My Life at Speed is very excited about this event and we have it on our radar to continue coverage.
