Hot Wheels Pays Ode to Retro Hollywood Cars

Edmonton’s upcoming motor show will be featuring some of the hottest cars in Canada but perhaps not quite as awesome as what a legendary car toy maker has in store for us…

Hot Wheels Retro Cars

Hot Wheels designed a new series of cars based on a slew of nostalgic Hollywood movies. The Retro Entertainment Series of toys takes its inspiration from iconic vehicles from popular and classic movies and television series.  All your favorites are likely to be there, from the “Back To The Future” DeLorean to the 1977 Firebird from “Smokey and The Bandit.”  There are seven mixes, or waves of releases, in total with five different iconic cars in each one.

’77 Pontiac Firebird (Smokey and The Bandit)

This homage to the famous Firebird from the series is presented in 1:64 scale, as are the rest of the cars.  It is black with a gold Firebird emblem on the hood and sides.  The interior is gold and there are gold stripes on the top.  Real rubber tires with gold rims complete the package.

The Fiero from this iconic movie is one of the cars that is proving extremely hard to find.  The cars have appeared on auction sites only to quickly sell out.  The Ferrari from the same movie will also be available.

’84 Pontiac Fiero (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off)

Another Ferrari in the Retro Entertainment series is the Ferrari 512 M used in the Miami Vice television show, which was known for featuring a number of top sports cars. A white 512 M was used in the series for a character’s undercover vehicle.

This car is one of three cars in the series from the American Graffiti movie. The other two being the ’58 Edsel and the ’32 Ford. The car is presented in the original white with red interior and is also expected to be one of the harder to find cars.

’58 Chevy Impala (American Graffiti)

This car is actually featured three times in the new series, with each one having a different color and available in separate mixes. The Minis featured in the original movie were red, white and blue.

Each car will be featured in special packaging with logos and imagery from the movies they are from. The cars are already being hyped as collector’s items and many of them are selling quickly as they are released.

My Life at Speed Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Chris Nazarenus, had a chance meeting with key executives at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1998. It would be the "Jerry McGuire" moment that would change her life forever. Although she knew nothing about motorsports at that time, the chance meeting would influence her passion for all things fast, great stories and interesting people. That's what you will find here at My Life at Speed.
