This is the WRC Mexico crash that made all the highlight reels this week! Estonian driver Ott Tänak took a high speed on loose gravel which sent the M-Sport World Rally Team Ford Fiesta rolling uncontrollably into a reservoir. Thankfully Tänak and fellow Estonian co-driver, Raigo Molder, escaped unharmed and you might think the car was a goner. However despite being submerged for ten hours, the team avoided the Retirement List, getting the car race ready after three hours work. Although they ultimately finished 22nd overall, their watery crash and recovery made the M-Sport World Rally Team a fan favorite for this rally.
In case you were wondering, the little duck strapped to the handbrake was also rescued along with the car. The cute little talisman is Tänak’s, who told WRC.com that “She was wet and dirty and females don’t like that. They enjoy spas and sunshine, so she won’t be going back in the car.”
