I’ve known about Brett King and Brett King Designs longer than he and I have been friends. It started with my friendship with Touring Car Driver Robb Holland. I took interest in Robb’s helmet at the 2012 running of the 25 hours of Thunderhill. The helmet was pretty amazing. Great design, and great colors. I asked Robb about it and he told me about Brett. I started following Brett and watching his client list grow to include some of the best drivers in the business. Guys like Josef Newgarden, Jamie McMurray, Scott Speed, and Michael Essa, just to name a few.
Each helmet he paints is an absolute original, but they are all easily recognizable as a Brett King Design. The clean lines and intricate geometry that he weaves into each design are complicated, yet immediately appealing to the eye. Each helmet you see takes time to fully work your way through and digest, and it’s interesting to discover the many details you’ll see in each.
I had a chance to finally meet Brett in person back in September at a huge event put on by Cycle Gear at their Sacramento location. Here are the highlights from that interview.
Here’s a few shots of Brett’s designs for Arai, as well as his fine work in use out at a track near you.
Be sure you go follow Brett King on Facebook, and definitely check out his website for more information and full galleries of the helmets he’s painted.
