2015 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Poster Unveiled

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Unveils Original Bill Patterson Artwork for
2015 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Commemorative Poster

MONTEREY, Calif., July 13, 2015 — A very special representation of the featured marque for the 2015 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the Shelby GT350 Mustang, is beautifully captured by noted motorsports artist Bill Patterson in the original artwork poster for the Aug. 13-16 event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The poster showcases the 1965 white-with-blue-racing-striped Shelby GT350 Mustang once owned and raced in vintage events throughout the 1990s by legendary driver Sir Stirling Moss. The scene painted by Patterson captures the Shelby GT350 charging at top speed through Turn 7 on Mazda Raceway’s world-renowned 11-turn 2.238-mile road course. The cost for the poster is $25 (comes inside a tube) and will be available exclusively at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Souvenir Store located in the main paddock area next to the foot bridge between Turns 3 and 4.

“The Shelby GT350 remains a milestone car for me, the dependable and hearty American version of the fantastic but temperamental European supercars of the era,” said Patterson. “It’s styling says All-American, with just the right amount of added scoops, creases, racing stripes, and the  wheel wells filled to perfection with racing wheels and meaty rubber. Of course I was of the age that I wonder if they looked that great at the time, or if that look defined the genre! Either way it’s still a thrill to see one on the street and even more exciting to see it at the fabulous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. And that sound!! I hear that sound every time I look at the art for this year’s poster.”

Patterson has been the Official Artist of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca since 2004 and continues to be inspired by the sights and sounds of racing. “I am mesmerized by the fluidity of movement and the lines of the race cars as they dance around the track,” Patterson says. “I try to capture the essence of their movement in all my paintings.”

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is one of the world’s premier historic racing events and a centerpiece of the Monterey Classic Car Week. A total of 550 historically- and period-correct cars are accepted to compete in 15 different race groups. For many, it is a motorsports museum springing to life, as authentic cars from as far back as the pre-war era rev up and tackle the challenging circuit in gentlemanly races.

Tickets to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion include a variety of options, from single day tickets to multiple-day and hospitality packages.  For more information, visit MazdaRaceway.com or call 831-242-8200.

I've been around some form of racing since I was a kid. First hanging around Ascot in Southern California. Then, after moving to Texas as a teen, I got hooked on drag racing and did that for almost fifteen years. In between I have raced Dirt bikes and Quads. 2011 Marked my 8th and final year racing up Pikes Peak: Five in the Pro Quad division and three in Time Attack. Future racing plans are in the works, but until then I'm at the track shooting for My Life at Speed as much as I possibly can.
