Upside Down Race Car – 24 Hours of Lemons

My Life at Speed recently shared a photo of an “upside down” 24 Hours of Lemons race car which we now know is fabricated and owned by Jeff Bloch, who is better known as “Speedy Cop“. The upside down 24 Hours of Lemons race car has been creating internet buzz over the past couple days since it was revealed and raced this past weekend in New Jersey.

The 24 Hours of Lemons upside down car is a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro fabricated with a decrepit 1990 Ford Festiva built by Speedy Cop .  To enter the New Jersey 24 Hours of Lemons race, the car had to cost less than $500, which with the cost of both cars combined still fulfilled the rules requirement.

Speedy Cop took the race car to the New Jersey Motorsports Park this past weekend and there were many double takes and stares as his 24 Hours of Lemons creation was unveiled.

“The reactions have been every bit what we expected: bewildered looks, broad grins, and plenty of laughter. The track’s tow guy passed our car in the pits, stopped, backed up, snapped a pic with his phone, and said “That’s gonna cause some confusion on the track!”

“I’m an 8 year-old kid trapped in a 40 year-old body, with just enough talent to pull off my wacky ideas, and, fortunately, enough truly amazing friends to help make them a reality. People are already asking what’s next. I have a yard full of potential LeMons cars, and a head full of bad ideas. I guess I’ll have to pick one, and get started…”

So, we wanted to know more about Speedy Cop?” Here is what we found out:

I’m a fun-loving car enthusiast and an adrenaline junky with a very creative and competitive spirit. Put those things together, and you get my own brand of automotive mayhem!

Being an adrenaline junky seems to run in the family. My grandfather climbed mountains all over the world, and will probably forever hold the record as the oldest man to climb El Capitan in Yosemite, at the age of 81. In my younger days I climbed up, over and down the 50 foot tall O’s in “wood” of the Hollywood sign.  Of course, my 600′ face first rappel down the Hoover Dam face was probably the most exhilarating thing I’ve ever done. It was better than jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet, or cliff diving 75 feet into frigid water in the Sierra Nevada.

Over the last 15 years I have supported my racing and stunt habits by serving as city and highway patrol officer and been a part of two different SWAT teams. I currently can be seen patrolling downtown Washington, DC on horse back full time any time of the year. I have had the honor of leading Presidential motorcades from Andrews Air Force Base to the White House and also protecting the President of the United States of America at Camp David.

We look forward to future 24 Hour of Lemons build by Speedy Cop, he definitely fits in here at My Life at Speed.

My Life at Speed Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Chris Nazarenus, had a chance meeting with key executives at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1998. It would be the "Jerry McGuire" moment that would change her life forever. Although she knew nothing about motorsports at that time, the chance meeting would influence her passion for all things fast, great stories and interesting people. That's what you will find here at My Life at Speed.
