“Early explorers claimed that man would never reach the top of Pikes Peak. Not only has man conquered this historic mountain, but he ascends it at speeds of over 70mph in the annual Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Both man and machine must be in top shape if they expect to see the summit.”
These words were spoken almost 60 years ago, yet they still ring true today. Granted the speeds have increased and the road surface has changed, but the rush of reaching the top has not. However the sheer courage, and cajones the drivers possessed during the film below might not ever be matched.
As the winter thaws and spring comes upon us, remember; June is approaching. The month where both fans and competitors, old and new, American and foreign experience the thrill of Pikes Peak. Just a teaser of what’s to come.
