Rhys Millen lists factors that make record breaking runs so rare and describes what makes Pikes Peak so special in the following video.
Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima states that finishing under the ten minute mark is not his main goal for 2011, and instead he would like to break his own course record of 10:01.408. He claims that he only see’s ten minutes is only a passing point.
I find Monster’s goal hard to believe since he’s talked about nothing but the ten minute mark for years and years. Claims like this make me want to see him finish in that sweet spot between 10:00.001 and 10.01.407. I don’t think that there is any chance for him to walk off the mountain satisfied unless his run breaks ten minutes.
