It’s that time of year again where an unlikely patron of Sunday River comes to visit. For two days, 900 horsepower Pro 4 trucks will take to the slopes in a display of power and agility you will find no where else in the world in this kind of environment.

Red Bull’s Signature Series starts off with the third annual Frozen Rush found at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, Maine. For those that are local to the area, this is not an event to miss out on. It is a great way to start off the year and I look forward to it each time it comes. Qualifying and open pits are on Thursday January 7th and race day is Friday, January 8th. This event is free to the public.

Here’s a video from last year’s Frozen Rush to give you an idea of what to expect.

It’s a far cry from last year where the winds were whipping and the temp was a balmy -20 degrees Fahrenheit. This year, we didn’t get our first snow until after Christmas and up until this week it has been steadily in the 40-50’s. Very unusual for this time of the year in the Northeast.

I jokingly thought they were going to have to change this years’ Frozen Rush to a Mud Run due to the weather. Needless to say, the folks at Sunday River have been working tirelessly to make as much snow as they can. Especially now that the weather is cooperating. Between now and qualifying taking place on Thursday, January 7th, we should be ok. These trucks do tend to tear up the snow fairly easily, so it may make for an interesting year.

Ricky Johnson and Bryce Menzies jocky for position

For those of you unable to attend, fear not because the race will be live streaming on http://www.redbull.tv on January 8th, starting at 11:30am EST. A taped airing of the show will be available on NBC as of March 1st as part of the Red Bull Signature Series.

Hoping to see you up there! I will be in my My Life at SPEED Parka. If you see me, feel free to say hello! I’ll probably look a little something like this;

Jason Brackett

I've been addicted to power and speed ever since the first time my head got pushed back into the seat under acceleration. I grew up with an affinity for engines and the arts, blending them together into my passions. Photography, writing and motorsports. I've traveled the country in pursuit of my passions and paid the price with my health. I'm a living marvel of modern medicine and a beacon of the human spirit. I was down and out for sometime but now, I'm back! With new hips, a slightly shorter digestive track and a drive to further my own ability. I'm from Maine. I have a small farm with 57 acres in the foothills of the White Mountains. I have a beautiful wife with a little girl, 2 dogs, one cat, ten chickens, and garage space to build something terrifyingly awesome. So ya, I'm living my American Dream. I don't particularly care for long walks on the beach Sunsets are cool but I prefer the smell of race fuel. One of my favorites songs is the sound of a Audi five cylinder at 9000 RPMs under wide open throttle, spitting hellfire and brimstone between gears. That always puts a smile on my face.
