Racers raising funds for children’s charities – Every Lap Counts.

The mission of Every Lap Counts is to raise funds and awareness for children’s charities around the world in a unique and fun motorsports format. It is the intent of Every Lap Counts to spread care and joy to children all over the world by inspiring, influencing and empowering others to follow in this noble cause.

“I have been fortunate to receive God’s blessing in just about every endeavor and adventure I have ever pursued. I feel it is my duty to give back to those who have not been so fortunate, and children have always had a very special place in my heart. Most say the reason for this is simply because I am just a big child myself and I tend to agree with them. Every time I see a child smile it gives me great joy. At the same time it reminds me of those children around the world who don’t get to smile much, or never smile at all. Every Lap Counts is my gift to all the brave children around the world who so desperately need a reason to smile. Together, we can fulfill this great mission and share my passion of placing a smile on every child’s face.”

SPEEDCOM Communications/Marcos Racing International has put together one of the best driver lineups in team history to defend its 2010 class victory in next month’s Dubai 24 Hours, January 14 – 15, and to support Every Lap Counts (ELC), a global fund raising effort supporting charitable causes for children through major international endurance auto races.

In last year’s Dubai 24 Hours, the team of Hal Prewitt, Toto Lassally, Cor Euser and Jim Briody, twice came from behind in a SPEEDCOM/Marcos BMW 120D to score a victory in the competitive D1 (Diesel 1) class.  Prewitt and Lassally return for the 2011 Dubai race where they will be joined by BMW stalwarts and GRAND-AM Road Racing Champions Will Turner and Don Salama. Euser, who has a previous driving commitment that weekend in Dakar, will still provide one of his potent and proven BMW 120Ds and the highly-experienced Marcos Racing International team as the group looks for its third-straight victory-lane showing in Dubai after also finishing second in the 2009 race.

“It is a dream come true for Hal and I to be paired up with a pair of top drivers like Will Turner and Don Salama,” SPEEDCOM Communications CEO and ELC Founder Lassally said. “When I heard they were interested in racing with us in Dubai, and that Cor would not be available due to his Dakar commitment, I knew we need to move quickly. With their talent, ability and popularity, we have a very good chance to not only score a repeat victory but also to generate some substantial funds for Every Lap Counts.”

“I am so proud of everyone that worked so hard to get Every Lap Counts off to a winning start last year at Dubai,” Lassally said. “This entire project took so much time and energy to launch but when we left Dubai with a victory and more than $10,000 in donation pledges for some special children around the world made it worth it. This time around we want another victory and to ask our friends and associates around the world to help us in doubling the 2011 donations.”

My Life at Speed Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Chris Nazarenus, had a chance meeting with key executives at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1998. It would be the "Jerry McGuire" moment that would change her life forever. Although she knew nothing about motorsports at that time, the chance meeting would influence her passion for all things fast, great stories and interesting people. That's what you will find here at My Life at Speed.
