People Watching: Formula Drift Long Beach

With ML@S photographers Eric Gearhart and Justin Nigro on hand to capture all the on track action at FD Long beach, I was left alone to concentrate on the people around the event. Which suits me just fine. I enjoy people watching. Always have…I think I get it from my mom, who has spent a good portion of her life traveling to different places around the globe for that sole purpose.[/dropcap]

Disneyland is a favorite of hers for obvious reasons. The people are a widely varied mix from weird to wonderful and it is, of course, the happiest place on earth. While I have yet to be able to take my people watching hobby overseas, I do enjoy the times I’m able to do so at a local racing venue. And Formula Drift Long Beach was pretty satisfying.

The photos I’ll share with you here are, for the most part, of the drivers and spokes models for the tire companies. However, the crowd that comes out to see them is no less entertaining. Hopefully next time I’ll find the time to stop staring and point and click in their direction as well. Until that time, enjoy a look at what I did have my lens focused on.

I've been around some form of racing since I was a kid. First hanging around Ascot in Southern California. Then, after moving to Texas as a teen, I got hooked on drag racing and did that for almost fifteen years. In between I have raced Dirt bikes and Quads. 2011 Marked my 8th and final year racing up Pikes Peak: Five in the Pro Quad division and three in Time Attack. Future racing plans are in the works, but until then I'm at the track shooting for My Life at Speed as much as I possibly can.
