MotoAmerica Announces Tentative 2015 Schedule

American Two-Wheeled Road Racing has been in the news since the KRAVE group and MotoAmerica announced they would be taking over operation and promotion of the AMA Superbike series. Their tentative schedule has even more to talk about with the Daytona 200 glaringly absent and only seven rounds on the calendar, though three of those rounds are in conjunction with MotoGP or World SBK events.

With the Daytona 200 missing some will argue a big piece of history is gone from the series; others will argue it was long overdue with the switch to 600cc machines and the extra costs to teams (it is the only event on the calendar that required pit stops and quick change equipment).

Another concern could be problems with any television deal at the MotoGP or WSBK rounds. The broadcast rights are a murky battlefield that has kept AMA races blacked out in the past – even the live feed at the track itself.

There is a lot to criticize but there is also some good news, at least there is for this author. Seeing Road Atlanta back on the calendar is heartwarming (I spectated my first event there) and VIR also seems to be back in the good graces of promoters. The South Course at VIR was actually the first track day I ever attended, where I got my first taste of unrestrained speed free of obstacles and oncoming traffic.

Costa Mesa, Calif. (October 10, 2014) — MotoAmerica, the new American road racing series, has released its tentative road racing schedule for 2015. MotoAmerica will deliver a full schedule of exciting motorcycle road races at premier race tracks across the United States in 2015.

“The MotoAmerica Road Racing series is shaping up nicely,” said Chuck Aksland. “The positive responses from race tracks and the road racing community have been great, and because of this support we were able to build a solid road racing series schedule for 2015. Our aim is to have a nine-race 2015 MotoAmerica Road Racing Championship. We are working on confirmation of an additional venue and hope to have this completed very soon.”

The 2015 MotoAmerica Road Racing Series:

April 10-12 Circuit of the Americas – Austin, Texas (2 classes, MotoGP support races)
April 17-19 Road Atlanta – Braselton, Georgia
May 15-17 Virginia International Raceway (VIR) – Alton, Virginia
May 29-31 Road America – Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
June 12-14 Barber Motorsports Park – Birmingham, Alabama
August 7-9 Indianapolis Motor Speedway – Indianapolis, Indiana * (2 classes, MotoGP support races)
September 11-13 New Jersey Motorsports Park – Millville, New Jersey
TBD Laguna Seca – Monterey, California (WSBK Support Race)
