Last Dance In Baltimore for IndyCar

The IndyCar Grand Prix of Baltimore is one of the must-see races on every fan’s calendar.  Who would have guessed that this year would have been its last?  Well, not until 2016 anyway.  According to a report on Indystar.com, in 2014 a football game between Ohio State and Navy will be held at the M&T Bank Stadium.  The race uses the stadium’s parking lot, which will obviously be unavailable.  In 2015, the city is hosting an American Legion convention.[/dropcap]

It’s been a three fantastic years of racing with different winners each time; and we really hope that they find a way to work this road course back into the schedule.  In the meantime, we can relive this year’s thrilling race that was won by one of our favorite My Life at Speeders, Simon Pagenaud.  Hat tip to Kenneth Stouffer.

Here’s the official word from IndyCar:

INDYCAR WILL NOT RETURN TO BALTIMORE IN 2014

INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, Sept. 13, 2013) – INDYCAR announced today that it will not return to Baltimore in 2014.

“After a successful visit to Baltimore, which included record attendance, we are disappointed that our schedules will not align to host an event in 2014,” said Mark Miles, chief executive officer, Hulman & Co., the parent company of INDYCAR.  “This was simply a matter of trying to find the best date that worked for all parties, since Labor Day weekend was not an option in 2014.  We are thankful to the city of Baltimore, Race On and Andretti Sports Marketing for their support and enthusiasm for the event over the years.”

Miles added: “We continue to finalize our 2014 schedule and anticipate announcing it prior to the end of our 2013 season.”
