Joe Kitinger parachutes from 102,800 feet in 1960

The Redbull Stratos launch has been pushed due to weather. The record that Felix Baumgartner is trying to break is that of Joe Kitinger, one of the biggest superstars in the history of going for it!! Thanks Joe for what you did, and best of luck tomorrow Felix! – GT

In 1960, Joe Kitinger jumped from a specialized helium balloon at just over 102,800 feet. (approx 20 miles). He fell to Earth at the speed of sound but had no sensation of his speed and felt like he was suspended above the Earth.
