The Nissan GT-R is a defiant monster among performance cars. Its boxy design bucks against European supercar tradition. According to Chief Engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno, “Anyone who tells me a good car is one that’s light with low power to weight ratio is an amateur.” (Oh, snap!) Indeed the GT-R doesn’t look like a wing or drop of water. Oh no, this car’s design was inspired by Gundam…which explains a lot. In this episode of National Geographic Channel’s Megafactories series, we see the GT-R’s construction from start to finish including its ride on Nissan’s production assembly line, and the incredible dedication of the skilled Takumi. This includes the surprising relationship between the GT-R and the Gran Turismo video game.
