We all have people we admire. And sometimes we hold them in such high esteem that when we finally meet them we’re a bit let down. Sometimes incredibly so. I’ve had it happen to me, more than once.
Thankfully, Patrick Dempsey doesn’t fall into that category. The man is more gracious and considerate than he really needs to be. It almost borders on ridiculous. He’s a talented actor, handsome enough to make a significant portion of the female population swoon with just a quick flash of his pearly whites, and oh yeah, on top of all that, he’s a pretty damn good race car driver. The last of those facts being the reason I admire him so much (ok, I admit, I really did enjoy “Enchanted”, and I’ve seen it with my wife and little girl at least a dozen times).
He had a real or, at least perceived chance, to just buy his way into a sport that has the ability to humble the best of them. But he didn’t buy his way in. He worked for it; going to school after school and working his way up through the amateur ranks. He’s still working for it. He has made a commitment to being better, and working the sport the way it should be worked. Famous or not, results are the key to having a future in motor sports. This is a brutal fact that he understands very well, as you’ll see him discuss in the video.
I could go on and on about what a good and decent person this guy is, explaining all the reasons why; but here’s all you really need to know: Integrity…he has it in spades.
