Final 12 Minutes of the Bathurst 12 Hour
On February 9, 2014 it seemed as though the entire motorsports community was live steaming the 2014 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour race on Mount Panorama, Australia. Social media blazed as the battle for first place between Craig Lowndes in the #88 Ferrari 458 Italia of Maranello Motorsport and Maximilian Buhk in #84 HTP Motorsport’s Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 hurtled towards its conclusion. In the meantime, Will Davison in the #63 Erebus Motorsport Mercedes SLS AMG GT was racing hard for the third podium spot against the #37 McLaren MP4 12C piloted by Shane van Gisbergen for VIP Holdings. A number of drivers who participated in this race were fresh off their performances in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. I actually saw Mika Salo chilling out between stints on pit road at Daytona International Speedway, and now here he was as part of the team that won this race. It was also an emotional win for the Ferrari team in honor of their fallen comrade, Allan Simonsen, who lost his life in a tragic accident at last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
