Colorado Springs, March 28——The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the world’s premier hill climb and the nation’s second oldest motor sports event behind the famed Indy 500.

But this year’s event on Sunday, June 29, features something extra special for fans of the legendary event that began in 1916 featuring a menu of exciting events for race fans ahead and during Race Week that will set the stage for the Race to the Clouds.

Pikes Peak Speedweek is the premier automotive experience, highlighting Colorado’s automotive industry, competition and culture.

Speedweek kicks off with the fabulous Pikes Peak International Auto Show, Friday, June 20 through Sunday, June 22, at the Freedom Financial Services Expo Center. It will feature the latest models and aftermarket products and support from the Pikes Peak Region.

The annual race Tech Inspection presented by Scion, open to the public, takes place on Monday, June 23 at the Colorado Springs World Arena. It gives race fans a chance to see the competitors and their autos and motorcycles. There is no admission charge for the event.

Practices and qualifying begins the next morning and will be open to the public once again. Practice dates are June 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th. Race Day tickets will not allow fans to view practice sessions with specific restrictions. To attend practice fans must purchase an online ticket for each specific practice day.  Tickets are available online for $25 per person per day or fans can purchase a individual week pass for $120.  All spectators must sign a liability waiver before attending practice sessions.  All spectators must be through the toll gate from 4:00-5:00am on practice days.  No spectators will be allowed through the toll gate after 5:00am. For practice all spectators must watch the race from designated areas along the course (Start Line, Glen Cove, Devils playground).  No spectators will be allowed to move up and down the course once practice has started.

Friday, June 27, will be one of the most exciting days in the history of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb aside from the actual Race Day on Sunday.

Fan Fest, presented by Budweiser from 5:00-10:00 p.m. is the annual pre-race celebration held in downtown Colorado Springs (Tejon St. between Colorado Ave. & Bijou St.) promoting the The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This event is FREE and typically features a large Budweiser beer garden, a chili cook-off, motorcycle jumpers as well as other live entertainment provided with the support of prominent Colorado Springs downtown business owners Sam and Kathy Guadagnoli, plus demonstrations, exhibitions and a long list of options for families to enjoy. Top race qualifiers will display their vehicles (cars, quads, motorcycles, etc.), give driver demos and be present for autograph sessions.

As always, more than 35,000 fans are expected to attend the Fan Fest and enjoy the special evening that will celebrate the event and Sunday Race Day.

In addition, the PPIHC mobile museum will be on-site and exclusive PPIHC merchandise will be available for purchase.

New this year on Friday and Saturday will be the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack at the Colorado Springs Airport. It’s a high-speed, half-mile racing event featuring competitors from across the nation on one of motor sport’s most unique events for race fans. The Airstrip Attack’s main event continues featuring grudge matches and high-profile race competition.

This spectacular automobile event includes up to 200 of the regions highest-horsepower exotic, muscle, tuners and Euro build model autos, a thrilling lineup that will attract a huge field of fans and speed experts.

In addition, dozens of the industry’s top manufacturers, personalities and shops come to participate and be involved in the excitement.

The current record holder is Underground Racing at an amazing 224.9 MPH during the most recent Airstrip Attack in Coalinga, California.

The thrilling event, held on one of the Colorado Springs Airport’s runways, includes half-mile side-by-side roll race and trap speed competition on Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. The top three competitors in each class are awarded a prize at the end of the day. Saturday is qualifying and roll race competition, a bracketed competition where the previous trap speeds are used to qualify the competitor’s spot in the bracket. The shootout then begins and the winners of each class are crowned “Mile High Victor.”

Tickets will be priced at $20.00 per day or a special two-day ticket for just $30.00. Details on how to purchase tickets will be coming soon.
