When Formula 1 ace Lewis Hamilton left McLaren for Mercedes AMG Petronas at the end of the 2012 season, it was considered a potentially disastrous career move.  However, the Brit has so far managed to earn three podium appearances and currently holds the fourth spot in the Championship standings.  Suffice it to say, he’s hushed the naysayers…for now.  Curiously, what he hasn’t managed to do is completely escape the one thing that all race car drivers must bear – PR work.

His former teammate Jenson Button has already taken his place, as the team’s designated Mobil 1 spokesman; starring in a (silly) TV commercial with NASCAR’s Tony Stewart.  While his replacement, Sergio “Checo” Pérez filmed a promotional video testing the McLaren P1 at the Top Gear test track in Dunsfold, England.  Those Ferrari boys don’t have it any easier either as both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa have filmed videos, testing the F12 Berlinetta and LaFerrari supercars.  (For pity’s sake, the things that these Formula 1 drivers are made to endure!)

Anyway, Hamilton’s number is definitely up as a brand-new video is out, where he’s extolling the virtues of the latest AMG turbo supercar sedan.  The Mercedes A45 AMG was put through its paces on a rainy day at the Silverstone Circuit.  It’s a short video and he certainly seemed to be enjoying himself; at one point relating the throttle’s sensitivity to that of an F1 car.  In case you missed his passing comment, the quote was thrown up on the screen right afterwards.  One may say that going from supercar videos to luxury cars is a step down; but, with the sweet deal he has with the German team, Lewis Hamilton can go buy whatever car he wants.  If I was in his shoes, the Pagani Automobili would be on speed dial.  “I’d like to buy a Zonda please.”
